7 Common SEO Mistakes and How to Avoid Them?
I normally say that SEO is a very lucrative marketing tool for any online business, if done properly, but unwillingly we might do some mistakes which can ruin all the SEO benefits of any website. Read on this blog post of mine to know some quite common SEO mistakes and how to avoid them?
It is always considered from a webmaster that they should follow all the SEO best practices while developing their websites, but it is quite common that some best practices are forgotten or handle with no care and thus helps websites to commit SEO mistakes unwillingly.
It is better to understand those SEO mistakes so that you can be able to avoid them. Here is my blog on the same.
Here are some quite common SEO mistakes:
One of the most common mistakes which almost every webmaster does is to go behind building links to their website. There was a time when links were always considered as the best mean to influence the ranking of the websites on search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing (or MSN), etc. It is also undoubtedly true that even today links are crucial behind the ranking of any website, but now the concept of building links has changed into earning links.
Now webmasters should not go behind link building things, but they should try how to make their website as a perfect one so that the website should earn links automatically. You can also check one of my recent blog on link building mistakes which every webmaster should avoid to understand the concept.
The biggest mistakes in my opinion as far as SEO is concerned, is to purchase links or do link exchange with any website of poor quality. Do remember that one good quality link is far better than 100 links from poor quality websites. So try to focus towards getting such 100 one good quality link.
Gone are the days when some so called SEO’s were trying to stuff the website with keywords to rank well on search engines. These days keyword stuffing is considered bad by search engine giant Google, though presence of keyword on web pages is required, but the stuffing should be avoided.
Always remember, the content of your website is what matters in ranking of your website on search engines. If it is written poorly with the entire keywords thing, it will certainly make your website look poor.
Unnecessary uses of your target keywords are bad. Try to make your content in a natural way.
You all must be aware of the recent Panda updates by Google, which happened on last week and coded as Panda 4.1. I am quite sure that if you do keyword stuffing your website must be there which will be penalized by Google Panda.
To be very frank, as per Google broken links are not something which can harm your website as far as search engines are concerned, but then if you go by user experience or satisfaction, broken links are worst for it. And you know the thing that Google these days loves websites based on the user satisfaction quotient.
Thus if you want to make your website free from any SEO mistakes, you should get rid of all the broken links from time to time.
Building reputations online is a very difficult task, and broken links are something which will certainly earn you a bad reputation. So why to go for it?
We normally say that Content is King, but unwillingly or willingly go with the duplicate content on our website. This is the major SEO blunder which normally every webmaster should avoid.
I always say that whenever you create any new page on your website, try to build its content fresh, try to make even the Title, Meta Tags and content unique even from the other pages of your own website. No matter for what purposes you are uploading a new page on your website, make it unique from all the angels.
Try to check your Google Webmaster Tools account and get rid of the duplicate title, and duplicate Meta keywords and description from your website. This is one of the most common SEO mistakes and should always be avoided. Don’t use same title for any pages of your website, or don’t even try to copy and paste the same descriptions on all the pages of your website.
Doing copy cat is always considered bad, so you should never copy the entire content of any website on your website. If you are finding that someone else is doing the same, I mean copying your content on their website, mail them about the drawbacks and tell them to remove it immediately else you can file complaint against them in Google.
One of the most common SEO mistakes which I am seeing lately among webmasters is to avoid the Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools data. Usually SEO’s are ignoring the traffic pattern of their client’s website, or their own website, and it is a mistake these days.
You always need to be careful about from where you are getting traffics, and how is the bounce rate of your website. You need to judge the bounce rate of all the sources of your traffic individually and thus you can determine which sources are good and which are not.
If you are getting a link from a website which is sending traffic but the bounce rate of the same is incredibly high, you should get rid of such links. Try to disavow those links, if you don’t know how to use the Google Disavow links tool then you must need to check this blog post of mine on how to use Google disavow links tool.
Optimizing your website is the ultimate goal of any search engine optimizer, but then you should be careful that the over optimization of your website is not happening. Try to monitor whatever changes your SEO executive is doing on your website. This is the exact reason why I always ask people to go with SEO experts who has the basic knowledge of the things quite clearly.
There might be some reasons which can stop search engines to crawl your website. There might be some codes on your robots.txt file or on your Meta data which might stop search engine crawlers to stop crawling and indexing your websites. This is usually happen when you upload new pages on your website or upgrade your websites.
If you are not aware about how search engines work, then you can also check this blog post of mine.
The main purpose of SEO today is to develop your website in a user friendly manner. It should look proper to your visitors. Not only that, it should also look proper to search engines as well. Your website should provide the satisfaction to the visitors and provide them the information which they are looking for.
