Why to Avoid Link Building?
For website owners links are one of the sure things which can help them to rank well in Google, though nowadays people are not much keen about link building.
Read on this blog post of mine on why to avoid link building so that it should not harm the ranking of your website.
A few days or weeks back I came up with an interesting blog post on how to recover from Google Penguin update. Though the concept was quite clear that webmasters should try to grab natural and good quality back-links to their website so that they can get rid of the Penguin penalty, but some of my blogger friends and readers took it in a wrong way.
This being the reason why I need to came up with this blog post on why to avoid link building. Let me tell you that building link is entirely wrong from the Googleโs point of view and should always be avoided. Then what should be the approach? Let me explain you all in detail:
One term which should come into your mind when we discuss about links is the Penguin update of Google.
Let me first tell you about Penguin update, it is one of the famous updates by Google which forces webmasters to get rid of poor quality links to their website. As per Google if you or your website is found with trading links, or getting poor quality back-links or selling links from your website or giving links to poor quality websites, then your website might have to face the Google penalty termed as Penguin penalty and it might be penalized for displaying in search results.
This being the reason why webmasters who were involved with many cheap qualities link building habits had to face the penalty for their websites and suffer down in search engine rankings. This being the reasons why people started using Google Disavow links tool and try to get rid of the poor quality back-links to their website. If you are not aware about how to use it then you can check my blog on how to use Disavow Links tool.
There was a time when SEO or Search Engine Optimization was meant as building links to your website only. It was way back in 2004, 05 and thereafter when people considered that building links was a guaranteed way to rank well in Google. It was actually true that if you can be able to build some links to your website, no matter of which quality it is, your website can actually feature on Google search.
This practice remain same till late 2010, 11 too. People and especially SEOโs try to come out of this situation once Penguin Update of Google hit them and their website badly. But still you can find some people who are keen to build links for their website to rank well in Google.
The way I discussed about getting good quality links to your website in my last post on how to recover from Penguin update, or Penguin penalty, many of my readers miss conceptualized it that they can build links and get rid of the Penguin penalty. But if you read my blog post you will analyze that I said to try to gain good quality links to your website, not to build poor quality links to your site.
This is a much awaited discussion on which I always want to develop a blog post, but unfortunately never get a chance to create a blog on it. Though I came up with so many blog posts related to the same discussion:

- Link Building Mistakes which Every Webmaster Should Avoid!
- Shift Your Focus Towards Building a Quality Site than Link Building!

There is a huge difference in earning links and building links to your website. If you are aware of the techniques used by link builders you will find it really hard to get quality links through it. On the other hand if you are focusing on earning links, it will definitely provide quality back links to your website and will never ever penalize your site in Google or any other search engine.
Thus, you can focus on providing quality stuffs on your website so that people should refer you and your website in a natural way. This way your focus doesnโt goes towards asking people to link to your website, rather you focus on providing quality and value addition to your users. This will surely make your website one great one which should always benefit its users.
If you ask me then I would suggest any website or blog owner to avoid link building as it will do more harm to your website then benefiting it. In fact if your website is facing any sort of penalty, you should thinking about how you can convert into a better place for your visitors, then targeting about some links to your website.
I guess it is Google because of which webmasters decide about something, and it is the same reason why I must suggest anyone to avoid link building as it will harm the reputation of your website. Please do share your opinion about it and other blog posts in the form of comments over here. I will await for your opinion about this blog post.

Very informative post. I have never really tried to do link building of any kind but over the past 2 years I have seen the links develop on their own. Even though the growth was slow, I am glad it happened the right way!
If you are providing great content on your website which is useful for your readers, they will surely refer to it. And this is one of the natural way to earn link. Thank you so much Ritu for your visit over here, and am glad that you liked it.
Points back to importance of quality content and this is where most of the conventional SEO teams need to learn quickly that link building is no longer an algorithmic play. It needs a lot of thinking & understanding about the content you are trying to promote. With google giving huge value to responsive content & websites, it would become even more critical to create content which is mobile friendly.

Dear Raj, Thanks for sharing your opinion on my blog. I really appreciate the efforts which you gave in, buddy, this is the age when you need not to think about link building, start thinking about link earning. Let me tell you one simple example, you gave your URL in the comment over here, but I removed them from your comment while moderating it. This was an example of building link, on the other hand, in some of my blog I might refer to this discussion and give a link to your blog like the way I do in many of my blogs, and then it will become an example of link earning. So I guess you can understand the differences.
