There are certain tips anybody can use to extend the life of his laptop. Laptop by design can either function through a direct connection to the AC power; or it can run through the battery. However, situation may arise when the laptop can be used solely on the battery without connection to the laptop. To ensure that the laptop has optimal performance the life span of the battery has to be preserved.
The conventional way of making use of the laptop is through charging it 100% after which it can run on AC power that is moving the battery and then plugging the laptop directly to the wall. The battery can be used for traveling.
Another way of preserving the life of the battery of the laptop is by charging it every time. Frequent charging will not do any damage to the battery especially when it is plugged into electricity when you are using it.
What reduces the life span of your battery is allowing it drain completely before recharging it. It is not normal to allow the battery drain completely before recharging it. Routine charging help preserve the life of the battery. The best thing to do is to have it plugged when you are making use of it. If however you have a reason to operate your laptop at place where you will not have access to electricity, it is strongly recommended that you do not allow the battery to go down beyond 20 to 30 percent.
It is also recommended that you turn off the laptop when you are not making use of it. If you are going to be idle for a long time it is advisable to hibernate the laptop.
You should always maximize the use of power, this you can do by selecting the maximum option in power setting. Try also to dim the screen light to the minimum level.
Use the battery and recharge it, always use it until the battery is low and recharge it after use. However, it is recommended that you should not leave the battery unused for 2 weeks after it has been charged.
